The Zimbabwean comedy maestro has been making waves on the international stage, and his performance at the Improv was no exception as the crowd showered him with love and applause, a testament to his comedic prowess.
The Improv Comedy Club has a rich history, spanning six decades, providing a premium platform for numerous artists to share their truth with the world. Many celebrated and contemporary artists, such as Gabriel Iglesias, Damon Wayans, Chelsea Handler, Craig Robinson, Taylor Tomlinson, and Bert Kreischer, got their start on the Improv stages.

Learnmore Jonasi, formerly known as Long John the Comedian, has had a remarkable journey in the world of comedy. Born on August 22, 1993, in Mutare, Zimbabwe, his early life was filled with challenges. Raised by his grandparents, Partson Mwanyenyeka and Lillian Mwanyenyeka, Learnmore faced adversity from a young age. His mother, Memory Mwanyenyeka, worked as a Kindergarten teacher in South Africa.
Learnmore’s educational journey took him to different places. He attended Chimanimani Primary School in 1999 and later moved to Mutare, where he continued his education at Sheni Primary School. In 2006, he joined Chimanimani High School and completed his ZIMSEC General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level in 2010.
After finishing his O level, Learnmore embarked on his comedic journey. However, it was far from smooth sailing. He traveled to Harare in 2011 but had no relatives there to provide support. In 2012, he performed for the first time at the Simuka Comedy Night hosted at Book café in Harare, where he faced a tough crowd that initially booed him. Despite the challenges, he persevered, returning every Monday to perform.
In 2014, Learnmore returned to Bulawayo, where the Umahlekisa comedy club had been established. With the guidance of Ntando Van Moyo, the club’s founder, Learnmore honed his skills and began to be known as “The Village Boy from Chimanimani” due to his humorous village-themed jokes. In October 2014, he embarked on his first international tour in South Africa at The Box Comedy Club.
One of his milestones came in December 2015 when he performed his first one-man show titled “The Longest Yard” at Alliance Francaise Harare. Subsequently, he opened for comedy legend Barry Hilton in February 2016. Learnmore also had the opportunity to perform at the African Comedy Festival in the United Kingdom.

Learnmore continued to expand his horizons, participating in various comedy festivals across Africa. He performed at the Swaziland International Comedy Festival, the Major Moves Comedy Nights in Botswana, and the Kampala Comedy Festival in Uganda. He also had the honor of performing at the Kigali International Comedy Festival in Rwanda.
In April 2019, Learnmore headlined Free Your Mind’s (FYM) monthly stand-up comedy show in Namibia, hosted by Courage the Comedian. That same month, he received the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA). In September 2019, he was crowned the Pan African Comic of the Year at the South African Savannah Comics Choice Awards, dedicating his award to those affected by Cyclone Idai in Zimbabwe.
Learnmore’s accolades continued to grow in 2020, winning his second NAMA Award as Outstanding Comedian of the Year and receiving the Best Stand-up Comedy Award at the All The Laughs Comedy Awards in Atlanta. He also won the Male Personality of the Year at the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards South Africa (ZAA SA).
As Learnmore Jonasi continues to rise in the comedy world, his journey from a challenging childhood in Zimbabwe to international stardom serves as an inspiration to many. His dedication, resilience, and humor have earned him a special place in the hearts of comedy enthusiasts worldwide.
