Feli Nandi embarked on her musical journey as a backing vocalist with Mbeu’s Mhodzi Tribe, where she lent her talents for a duration of two years. During her tenure with the band, she contributed to the recording of six singles, including “Ndega Ndada,” which was accompanied by a music video. However, her aspirations led her to part ways with the group, setting her sights on a solo career.
Inspired by local traditional music luminaries such as Oliver Mtukudzi, Thomas Mapfumo, and Chiwoniso Maraire, Feli Nandi began honing her songwriting skills while still in secondary school. Her journey as an independent artist gained significant momentum in 2020 when she released the single “Mufudzi WeMombe” in collaboration with Trevor Dongo.
In the subsequent year, 2021, she introduced her self-titled album ‘Feli Nandi’ to the music scene. Her singles, including “Munhu Wangu,” “Unotyei,” and “Kukurumidza,” resonated with audiences and garnered substantial airplay on local radio stations.
Feli Nandi’s remarkable talent did not go unnoticed. In February 2022, she received nominations for the categories of “Outstanding Newcomer” and “Outstanding Female Musician” at the prestigious 2022 National Arts Merit Awards.
In May 2022, she unveiled her debut album titled ‘Izwi.’ This release received recognition by earning a nomination for “Best Album” at the 2023 Zimbabwe Music Awards. During the same year, Feli Nandi’s musical prowess earned her several accolades, including the title of “Best Female Artist” at the Zimbabwe Music Awards and the award for “Best Alternative” for her single “Ndoona Iwe” at the Star FM Music Awards.
Feli Nandi’s musical journey has seen her grace the stage at prominent music events across Zimbabwe, as well as international tours, including the United Kingdom for the JamAfro Family Festival Show, South Africa, and Togo.
In addition to her original compositions, Feli Nandi has released the heartfelt tribute “Women,” dedicated to her mother, along with covers of Mbeu’s tracks “Hazvinei” and “Ndibateiwo.” Her versatility and commitment to her craft continue to captivate audiences both at home and abroad.
