Hip-hop artist Maskiri, born Alishias Musimbe, is all set to drop a new single this month.

The highly respected rapper, with decades of industry experience, a reputation for controversial lyrics and a unique rap style, expressed his excitement in an interview with The Southern Live about sharing this song with the world, which will be released together with an accompanying music video.”

“On the 20th of November, I am releasing my single called ‘Goat.’ It’s all about being the greatest of all time,” said Maskiri.

The single, produced by Movy D featuring Blackarose, will be Maskiri’s last release this year following the success of The Motswako EP, which included stars like Tererai Mugwadi and Lamont Chitepo, boasting hits such as “Masendeke.”

When discussing the new generation, Maskiri mentioned that he listens to artists like Volt not for enjoyment, stating that “they are good in their level,” while also commending talents like Hillzy; he additionally applauded Fortune Muparutsa and Innocent Utsiwegota, emphasizing that today’s Zimbabwean rappers haven’t achieved the same level of quality.

“When it comes to people like the late Fortune Muparutsa and Innocent Utsiwegota, I was mostly inspired by their sound,” said Maskiri.

Reminiscing of the old days, Maskiri, who is also into goat farming, stressed that when they started making music in 2003, they didn’t make much money.

Despite the popularity of urban grooves, he said , they were paid very little, perhaps equivalent to the price of a pizza, and this meager income didn’t provide much relief in the face of Zimbabwe’s challenging economic situation, resulting in limited financial success for them.

“I am happy that now music is taken more seriously, and brands are interested in working with artists. It’s different from how it was back then when we used to sleep in buses after shows,” added Maskiri.

The controversial yet private Maskiri stated that he isn’t worried about his bad boy image. It’s one thing that has solidified his name in the industry, and he is proud that people have no real access to his personal life.

Born in Chitungwiza, a residential town approximately 25 km outside Harare, Maskiri, often dubbed Africa’s Eminem, collaborated with English pop artist Keisha White on the track “Africa,” showcasing his Shona rap talents.

The rapper began his journey working with Fortune Mparutsa before teaming up with Mr See and Munetsi. He later joined Chamhembe, fronted by Take Fizzo, where he released his first studio album, “Muviri Wese.”

“My fans should expect nothing but fire and truths in this song since I put my all into it.”
