Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – August 22, 2024 – Tanzanian singer and songwriter Zuchu, born Uhura Othman Soud on November 22, 1993, in Zanzibar, has emerged as a powerful force in the African music industry.

Currently signed to the prestigious WCB Wasafi record label, Zuchu’s career has been marked by impressive achievements, but recent controversies and personal challenges have also made headlines.

Zuchu’s ascent in the music world has been nothing short of extraordinary. Her breakthrough came in 2020 when she became the first East African female artist to receive YouTube’s Silver Plaque Button for reaching 100,000 subscribers within a week.

This milestone was followed by an even more impressive feat, as she hit 1 million subscribers just 11 months later. That same year, she was honored with the Emerging Artist Award at the AFRIMMA Awards, recognizing her as a rising star in the industry.

In 2023, Zuchu’s star continued to rise as she won five awards at the Tanzania Music Awards in April. Later that year, she surpassed 500 million views on YouTube, making her the first female artist in East Africa and the fifth in Africa to achieve such a remarkable milestone. Her 2022 hit single “Sukari” also gained recognition, being listed among the top Tanzanian songs of the decade by Notjustok.

Despite her professional successes, Zuchu’s personal life has recently become a focal point of public interest. The singer, who hails from a musical family with her mother being renowned Zanzibari Taarab musician Khadija Kopa, has been in the spotlight for her relationship with WCB Wasafi’s Diamond Platnumz.

Their relationship, publicly confirmed by Zuchu, has been both celebrated and scrutinized. Recent reports revealed that Zuchu requested financial support from Diamond for breast surgery, stirring discussions and controversies among fans and the media.

Adding to the complexity of her situation, Zuchu recently faced a ban from performing in Zanzibar. The reasons for this ban have not been fully disclosed, but it has sparked considerable debate within the music community and highlighted the ongoing challenges in her career.
