Progressive Forces of South Africa Petition to Block Miss Universe Nigeria from Global Pageant

A South African advocacy group, the Progressive Forces of South Africa, has released a statement urging the Miss Universe organization to disqualify Miss Universe Nigeria, Chidimma Adetshina, from competing in the upcoming global beauty pageant.

The call was accompanied by a petition that has gathered more than 600 signatures, following allegations regarding Adetshina’s South African identity and travel documents.

The controversy arose after South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs announced on October 29 that they had completed their investigation into Adetshina’s identity documentation.

.

In their statement, the Progressive Forces of South Africa expressed concern that Adetshina’s continued participation could tarnish the reputation of the Miss Universe competition. “Miss Universe is a global platform known for its values of integrity and fair competition,” the statement reads.

“We urge Miss Universe to reconsider Miss Nigeria Universe’s participation in light of the revelations surrounding her documentation and the past conviction involving her mother.”

This petition marks the second time South African citizens have campaigned against Adetshina’s involvement in pageants. Previously, public outcry led to her withdrawal from the Miss South Africa competition. Despite this, she later qualified for Miss Universe, representing Nigeria and eventually winning her national title.

As Adetshina embarks on her journey to represent Nigeria on the global Miss Universe stage, questions surrounding her eligibility and documentation remain.
